A Global Education Framework Rooted in

Excellence

We proudly offer the Middle Years Program (MYP) for grades 6-8 and the Primary Years Program (PYP) for grades K-5.

Our dedication to the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework is central to our identity and educational approach. As one of the pioneering IB schools in Chicago Public Schools, we seamlessly integrate IB philosophy into every facet of our curriculum, creating a dynamic environment that equips students for success in a globalized world.

The IB is a globally recognized leader in international education, providing rigorous, mission-driven programs designed to challenge students from ages 3 to 19. At the core of all IB programs is developing internationally-minded individuals aware of their shared responsibility to care for the planet and foster a more peaceful and united world

What is ...

An IB Education?

An IB education is rooted in a clear philosophy that shapes and drives our programs. It emphasizes developing globally aware, well-rounded individuals prepared to succeed in a complex world. At its core, the IB framework is built on four foundational and interconnected elements:

  • International-mindedness
  • The IB Learner Profile
  • A broad, balanced, conceptual, and connected curriculum
  • Approaches to teaching and learning

These principles guide the educational journey at Wildwood, fostering curiosity, empathy, and a deep commitment to learning.

The IB Mission Statement:

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging international education programs and rigorous assessments. These programs encourage students worldwide to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be correct.

How does the IB define international education?

The International Baccalaureate chooses to define "international education" according to the following criteria:

  • Developing citizens of the world about culture, language, and learning to live together
  • Building and reinforcing students’ sense of identity and cultural awareness
  • Fostering students’ recognition and development of universal human values
  • Stimulating curiosity and inquiry to foster a spirit of discovery and enjoyment of learning
  • Equipping students with the skills to learn and acquire knowledge, individually or collaboratively, and to apply these skills and knowledge accordingly across a broad range of areas
  • Providing international content while responding to local requirements and interests
  • Encouraging diversity and flexibility in teaching methods
  • Providing appropriate forms of assessment and international benchmarking
